Post Election Message from Bishop Amy Current
Dear ones in the Southeastern Iowa Synod,
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, no angels, nor rulers, no things present, not things to come, nor powers, nor height, not depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 (NRSVUE)
Election day is now behind us and as we step into these next days, may we remember the promise and reminder in Romans 8 that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Nothing, not even, a nation divided. May we remember that the love of God in Christ Jesus is for those who are rejoicing and for those who are terrified; for those who were elected and those who were defeated; for those with whom you disagree and for those with whom you agree.
May the love of God in Christ Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit lead us and guide us as we find our way forward in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead. Peace be with you and may we find ways to glimpse God’s gracious and persistent love and then respond with love for God and for our neighbors, including the most vulnerable among us.
I am including a worship service, A Liturgy of Blessing for a Time following Elections in shared by the East Central Synod of Wisconsin that you might consider using as a resource in your congregation, with your church council, bible studied, or small groups in the next days or weeks.
I pray the power of the Holy Spirit draws us together in the body of Christ so that we might together continue to share the Good News of God through Jesus Christ in our Synod, in our congregations, in our ministries, and throughout our country and the world.
I pray for our country, the world, all neighbors, and for each one of you. I hope you will join me in prayer.
Peace,
Bishop Amy Current
