Iglesia Camino de Emaús
Two years ago, Pr. Jose Pilar Alvarez Cabrera, the former bishop of Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala (ILAG) arrived in the Quad Cities and began gathering people into Iglesia Camino de Emaús (Road to Emaus Church). Just as Jesus walked with disciples on the road to Emaus in Luke 24, this Synod Authorized Worshipping Community walks with the Latine community in Davenport around Word, Sacrament, relationships, and community.
The Southeastern Iowa Synod, along with the Northern Illinois Synod, the ELCA, and local partners believe that the Holy Spirit has made a way for this community. Now, you have the opportunity to be part of something Spirit-led and life-changing. Your support towards the Assembly Offering helps build a vibrant, welcoming Latine community, where faith, fellowship, and hope come alive through Iglesia Camino de Emaús. Every gift, of every size, helps empowers this ministry to grow, gather, and walk with God’s people in powerful new ways!
Synod Assembly Offering Advocate Congregations have already begun sharing the inspiring story of Camino de Emaús, inviting neighboring congregations to open their hearts to this mission by committing gifts towards the ministry. These early efforts are building awareness and momentum, helping to lay the foundation for support and connection across our community.

“What excites me about Igelsia Camino de Emaús is that this community embodies the beloved Emaus story where the people gathering for worship, fellowship, and mutual support are meeting Jesus all along the way; hearing the Word in their own Spanish language, in the breaking of the bread, and witnessing Jesus’ love for all people in the midst of grief, joy, fear, and hope as Pastor Pilar gathers all around God’s table of grace.”
