Tim Krumm resigns as synod attorney, new attorney appointed
Bishop Current and the Southeastern Iowa Synod give thanks for Tim Krumm‘s 10 years of faithful service as Synod Attorney. In early 2022, Tim Krumm, a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Iowa City, shared with Bishop Current, “I have decided to step away from the Synod Attorney role. It has been a privilege to serve the church in this way and support the important work of Synod.” Tim agreed to serve in the role until a new synod attorney was appointed. In addition to providing counsel to the bishop and synod council, Tim held other roles in the synod and the churchwide organization.
Tim Krumm served as the synod attorney beginning in the spring of 2012. In addition to providing counsel to the bishop and synod council, Tim held other roles in the synod and the churchwide organization. Tim served as interim secretary on the synod council in 2014 and 2015 as well as several terms on the synod finance committee. Tim was part of the churchwide steering committee for the “Always Being Made New” campaign launched in 2014 and chair of the synod’s campaign, “Forward Together” which launched in 2016.
Former bishop, Rev. Michael Burk, had this to say, “Tim’s service in and for all three expressions of this church is grounded in a faith that took root in his baptism and his upbringing at First Lutheran Church, Newton. He is known and respected as a community leader in Iowa City and beyond. He made himself available to counsel the bishop on many occasions and he often provided legal guidance to the synod council. In every instance, he gave of his time and wisdom without expecting anything in return.”
Tim’s expertise, availability, and advice have served the synod well through the years. “I am thankful for Tim’s willingness to stay on and serve through the transition to a new bishop and give thanks for his assistance in visiting with our new synod attorney as he discerned the role”, shares Bishop Current, “Thank you, Tim, for your service to the synod as attorney. I look forward to future opportunities to share in ministry with you.”
Thank you to Todd Chelf, member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Burlington, for your willingness to step into the role of Synod Attorney. The Synod Council, upon Bishop Current’s recommendation, appointed Todd Chelf as Synod Attorney at September 17, 2022 meeting. The Synod attorney, a volunteer role, is appointed by the Bishop and serves the synod by providing legal advice and counsel to the synod officers and the Synod Council. “I am delighted that Todd discerned that stepping into this role is a good use of his gifts both as a baptized member and as a practicing attorney.
