Twelve members of the Synod Council and Office of the Bishop staff met on Saturday, September 18, over Zoom. Beginning with devotions led by Vice President Sara Hegg-Dunne, the Council met to conduct business and receive reports. Business items included extending synod council calls, hearing reports from Bishop Current and Office of the Bishop staff. At the July meeting, the Council asked the sponsors of the Housing and Welcoming Refugee Children resolution for ideas of action steps that could be taken by the synod. The Synod Council received and discussed the suggestions and will be partnering with the sponsors to provide resources for advocacy and education to the whole synod. The resolution on Child Protection was referred back to the sponsors for resources that could be shared with the synod.
Val Harlynn, Associate for Communications, led the Council in an education session to consider how the pivots to increased digital ministry can be an opportunity for engagement for the future. The Council approved contracting for the annual audit and elected the Gold+ level of health benefits coverage for sponsored synod employees for 2022.
The next meeting of the Synod Council will be Saturday, December 11, over Zoom.
