In the midst of work, practices for a particular sport or fine art, and running errands; it’s hard to find time to make a wholesome evening meal for the family. St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes, Iowa has stepped in to help with the “what’s for dinner?” dilemma with a new ministry.
The Take and Bake Ministry program was started in 2009 with the purpose of giving participants the opportunity to create healthy-dinners to take home while providing fellowship and moral support while preparing meals.
Each Take and Bake Ministry begins with a menu and a meal assembly session scheduled every other month. A donation is asked of each participant for whatever meals they order. The donations cover the cost of supplies as well as enough to make an extra set of meals which are distributed to members of the congregation or those in the community who may be going through a time of trial.
The day of the meal preparation session, all participants are responsible for prep, assembly and cleanup. That’s where the fellowship and moral support come in. By working together as a team, they use their skills and share in conversation, uplifting one another as they prepare meals. At the end of the day, everyone have meals that they can take home to their families and quickly serve on those busy evenings.
Thanks to the Take and Bake Ministry of St. Peter in Grimes, the blessings God has given through food and family time are encouraged and shared through a ministry with families and individuals in the midst of the busyness of everyday life.
