St. Stephen Urbandale GWOH 2“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday was celebration of who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America — one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. On Sunday, September 7, 2014 St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Urbandale, Iowa joined the nearly 10,000 congregations of this church to serve local communities in ways that share the love of God with all of God’s people.

St. Stephen’s ministry on this day included having all Sunday outdoor worship attendees join together to load up around 240 bags of snacks and supplies for children in Urbandale from Karen Acres Elementary School, one of St. Stephen’s neighbors. Often these snacks can be the difference between a hungry weekend and a well-fed weekend for these children.

St. Stephen Lutheran Church is a dynamic mixture of over 500 kids, youth, families, singles, and retirees who gather for worship, learning, music, and community life in Urbandale, Iowa. St. Stephen people direct their ministry according to a vision from Christ: “They need not go away, you give them something to eat,” through feeding the physically and spiritually hungry.
