Thank you. THANK YOU to all the people who participated in the bucket project that was tied to this year’s theme, The Water and The Witness.
We had a great synod assembly and the offering collected there are but one of the ways that our common witness to the good news of Jesus Christ flows to people in need. Thanks to the generosity of more than 70 congregations and ministry partners, we are able to make a real difference through the water ministries of the ELCA. As of this writing, the offering is $60,500. We will keep that “open” until June 15 in case there are those who would like to make additional contributions.
We’ve heard words of deep gratitude for our assembly speakers, Bishop Julian Gordy of the Southeastern Synod and our churchwide representative, Mikka McCracken. Mikka helped us to see how the creative activities that led to filling up those buckets in so many communities of faith will help thousands of children and families to lead healthy, productive lives because of increasing access to clean water and sanitation.
But The Water and The Witness doesn’t end with the completion of this project. The Water and The Witness is a way of understanding our life together in Christ. Remembering our baptism, “streams of living water” continue to flow from our hearts, our hands, and our voices as we share the reconciling love of God.
As this year continues to unfold, if there are photos or videos that reflect how The Water and The Witness flows in and through your life and ministry, please share them by email with [email protected]
Again, thank you. And when you remember your baptism, be glad
