The people of the Southeastern Iowa Synod are committed to anti-hunger efforts. One of our key partnerships in the fight against hunger is Bread for the World an ecumenical advocacy organization. One of the annual opportunities Bread for the World provides for individuals and congregations is the Offering of Letters a letter-writing campaign to congressional representatives. Bread provides excellent resources for individuals, groups, and congregations to hold a campaign and get involved. For 2023, the focus is the Farm Bill, a large piece of legislation that is renewed every five years. It covers things like crop insurance, and agricultural funding as it’s the name suggests but it also is the source of funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the largest governmental anti-hunger program.
