Information & Materials Provided Prior to Assembly

The 2012 Southeastern Iowa Synod Assembly will be held at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL from June 1-2, 2012.  The theme for this year is Christ is With You.  The Assembly opens at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 1, 2012 and is scheduled to close at 3:00 PM, Saturday, June 2.  Onsite registration opens at 8:00 AM on Friday, June 1.

Online Registration and Paper Registration are closed.   Registrations will be accepted on a walk-in basis at Synod Assembly.  Availability of dorm housing for walk-in registrations may be limited

Voting members to the assembly include rostered leaders in this synod, synod council members, and congregation lay voting members.Congregations are encouraged to begin the process of electing lay voting members to the assembly as early as possible using the guidelines from Chapter 7 of the Synod Constitution:S7.21.A99. Each congregation of this synod, whether it has fewer than 175 baptized members or 175 baptized members or more, shall be entitled to elect two lay members of the Synod Assembly. Congregations having a membership of 1250 baptized members or more shall be entitled to elect one additional member, plus an additional member for each 500 baptized members of the congregation above 1250. Each congregation shall elect an equal number of men and women to the Synod Assembly, except that an odd-numbered member may be either a man or a woman.

2012 Synod Assembly Details


ASSEMBLY SCHEDULE

The Assembly opens at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 1, 2012 and is scheduled to close at 3:00 PM, Saturday, June 2.  Onsite registration opens at 8:00 AM on Friday, June 1.   A full schedule will be available here closer to the event.

 

YOUTH

At the 2011 Southeastern Iowa Synod Assembly, a resolution was adopted that congregations of the synod be encouraged to send at least one youth or young adult as a voting member of the Synod Assembly, and that the Synod Council is to report to the 2012 Synod Assembly the progress toward a goal for at least 10% of the voting members of the assembly to be youth and young adults.  (The definition of ‘youth’ is a confirmed member 17 and younger.  It is recommended that a voting member be of high school age.  The definition of ‘young adult’ is a confirmed member between the ages of 18-30)

Youth who are 17 and younger are the legal responsibility of the congregation.  Permission and medical forms are the responsibility of the congregation.  Youth will be housed with other youth attending the assembly.

OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS

Campus Housing

Campus Housing is available in air conditioned Swanson Commons on the Augustana Campus on Friday night.  A bathroom is shared by two rooms.  The beds will be ‘debunked’ (no bunk beds).  Sheets and towels are provided.  Bring your own pillow, blanket and washcloth.   Several handicapped rooms are available for those who request them.  Campus housing is $38 per person for a Double dorm or $43 per person for a Single dorm
Swanson Commons is equipped with elevators.  Several handicapped rooms are available for those who request them. 

Please note that it is a 15 minute walk between Centennial Hall and Swanson Commons on a hilly campus.   Golf carts and drivers will be available to help transport folks who need assistance. 

A limited number of dorms are available for Thursday night.  Contact the synod office for Thursday night reservations.

Hotel

A limited number of hotel rooms have been reserved at the Radisson on John Deere Commons in Moline.  The cost is $87 plus tax per night.  The block will be held until May 11, or until filled.  Reservations can be made by calling the Radisson at (309) 764-1000.

Additional hotel block of rooms have been added and are located at Stoney Creek Inn and Conference Center in Moline.  The cost is $99 plus tax per night (includes continental breakfast) . The block will be held until May 9.  To reserve a room, call 800-659-2220 and ask for the ‘Southeastern Iowa Synod’ block.

 

HUNGER MEAL

 

Augustana College has offered to make a donation to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal for each person that registers and participates in the Friday noon Hunger Meal.   The Hunger Meal consists of soup and bread in place of the regular planned lunch.  $5.00 from the $30 meal plan is donated for each person that participates.   To register, mark the box in the Hunger Meal section on the registration page.
