Welcome to the website of the Southeastern Iowa Synod, one of the 65 synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). As the ELCA, we are equipped to carry out God’s own mission because of our partnership through congregations, synods, and churchwide ministries. We are interdependently linked to enhance our witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ.
The word synod comes from the Greek syn + hodos and literally means “walking together.”
Together, we are 95,000 baptized Christians in 139 congregations throughout central and southeastern Iowa.
Together, we are called to reflect the light of Christ in the world.
Together, we develop, support and foster connections among leaders across the synod.
Together, we are dedicated to developing and renewing evangelizing congregations.
Together, we attend to the intersections between the church’s mission and the world’s needs.
Together, we help congregations and individual members to make disciples and to be disciples in the name of Jesus.
